TAFE SA announces Practice Firm
Partnership

issued on: 14th July 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
Practice makes Perfect
Students at the TAFE SA Mt Barker Campus will be the first to take part
in the newly developed Practice Firm, beginning operation at the Campus
next month due to the support of local business owner Steve Roberts of
Central Sports.
“A very enthusiastic class of business studies students was instrumental
in getting the project off the ground” said Helen Hutton, Lecturer
for Business Administration and coordinator for the new Practice Firm. “They
started by ‘opening’ a virtual business in Personnel Recruiting
from the ground up. They developed the name, trading terms, infrastructure
and each had to apply for jobs with the ‘company’. At
that point we couldn’t open an official Practice Firm as we were
still missing a few vital components, the major one being a real life
business partner” explained Ms Hutton.
Practice Firms are simulated business operations that work and trade
around Australia within a structured network. These virtual businesses
operate just like a real business buying and selling products and services
with each other. They register a business name and set up relevant departments
such as finance, purchasing, sales & marketing etc. Individuals learn
about the operations of each of these business units and gain hands-on
experience within a real business environment, whilst completing a qualification
in business administration.
“We are very excited to announce a new business partnership
for the Practice Firm in Mr Steve Roberts of Central Sports, Mt Barker.
This association means we can now officially operate within the Practice
Firm national network. We feel extremely lucky to have Mr Roberts
on board as he can mentor the students with his extensive business experience. In
addition to Mr Roberts’ business expertise, he also has a TAFE Lecturing
background, so understands the needs of our students, which is a huge
bonus for us all” said Ms Hutton.
